With Peacekeeping missions folding up in Somalia and South Sudan, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has been called upon to stay back and send in more troops.
This was disclosed in a well packaged information dished out by the Director of Crime Services, Commissioner of Police (CP) Joseph Ibrahim Lahai.
Dilating on things unfolding, CP Lahai stated that with the limited available resources, the SLP is performing very well at globa level.
The SLP Commissioner, went on to informed that due to the exemplary performance in peacekeeping missions, the SLP has been asked to stay and send in more troops as other countries fold up in AMISOM
“This is because how we train the Somalia Police, how we network with them and handle critical issues surrounding policing” said Commissioner Lahai.
As Haiti situation comes to normalcy, the country he said has called on the SLP to chip in and help build up their Police Institution to enable them meet international standards and best practices.
South Sudan, Commissioner Lahai added has also called on the SLP to train their police.
He also informed that on Friday 26 January, 2024, the Scientific Support Department of the SLP completed a Training Of Trainers (TOT) in digital forensic that would help pick the beater pieces left at a crime scene.
CP Lahai, disclosed that prior to the TOT, the Chinese Government had donated state to art forensic equipments to the SLP which would be use at crime scene to trace evidence.
Commissioner Lahai also disclosed that after a convincing reasons by the IGP, the Government of Sierra Leone has approved Police Attache to the country’s foreign missions across the globe, starting with Mano River Basin, AU and ECOWAS.
These things he said, to him did not come as a surprise as he was sure that the current leadership of the SLP believes in discipline.
Charity he said begins at home and that if the SLP has failed in disciplinary measures, the institution could have always be in shame .
